Bioinformatics is an emerging discipline at the convergence of computing and the life sciences aimed at development of technologies for storing, extracting, organising, analysing, interpreting and utilising biological information. Bioinformatics has come to prominence with the analysis of the huge amounts of data generated by genome projects and post-genomic biology.

UNSW offers an undergraduate program leading to a Bachelor of Engineering (Bioinformatics), jointly administered by the School of Computer Science and Engineering and the School of Biotechnology and Biomolecular Sciences.

Bioinformatics is a truly inter-disciplinary field that brings together computer science, information technology, mathematics and statistics, and medical and biological sciences (and chemistry and biophysics). This site aims to provide a meeting point for students and researchers from various schools, faculties and associated institutes at UNSW with an interest in bioinformatics.
